Code of Ethics

NAEYC and DEC  Code of Ethics

The code of Ethics offers guidelines for responsible behavior and sets a common basis for resolving the key ethical dilemmas encountered in early childhood care and education. Some of these guidelines are listed below;

1.We should base our work on knowledge of how children develop and learn. Knowledge about children and their development is key for working with young children.The information you have about young children and their families influences our behavior and our attitudes .Services provided for young children should be purpose built.

2. Appreciate Childhood as a Unique and Valuable stage of human life cycle. It should always be remembered that the early years lay a foundation for life long learning and what ever is done at that stage affects the entire life even as an adult.

3. Respect the dignity, worth and Uniqueness of each individual (Child, Family and colleague) We should always remember that everyone no matter who they are or where they come from deserve to be treated with respect and value.Particularly this code of ethics reminds me that all Nigerian Children irrespective of where they come from and their backgrounds deserve quality early years education and that they should not be treated based on the economic status of their families.

  1. All your points are very important! We as educators have to understand that each child is going to have their own individual learning methods and we are going to have to be able to adapt to each case differently. These early years defiantly do lead us on the long journey of this thing we call life, which is why its important to teach children as much as we can so they can succeed in this world.
