Less than a Dollar a day

Poverty is still one of the greatest challenges we face as a country -Nigeria. Research says that 2 in every Nigerian lives under a dollar daily. How does one live under a dollar daily?  which needs can be met with that amount of money? This beats me!  I remember the story of a dear friend while he was growing up as a young child lost his Dad to death, because of this, his family (mum and 4 other siblings) were struggling to survive. They didn't even have a dollar to spend daily. My friend took to the streets and started hustling, hawking all forms of things from bread to oranges. He would walk long distances to school and then resume hawking when he got back from school. My friend was lucky he survived...he could have been part of the statistics of children roaming the streets of Lagos....But somehow he survived...he attributes it to God sending human angels to him daily. Today, my friend is a Harvard Graduate, he saw the face of poverty, he battled and he conqu...

Breastfeeding is Bae!!!

Just this weekend, I had the opportunity of sharing with a friend who just had a baby about the benefits of breastfeeding your baby. My Birthing Experience

I will like to share a personal story of the birth of my two children. These births were both interesting yet different. My first son was born in my home country Nigeria. On that faithful day, I woke up expectant because I wanted to have my baby on my Grandmothers birthday (as we had a close relationship). Like I had wanted, the signs of labor showed up the day before my desired day of delivery and i packed my bags and went to the hospital. I just assumed it would be a stroll into the hospital and a stroll out with the baby but alas it was several hours of pain and discomfort. No Pain reliever was offered, the Nurses and Doctors weren't too helpful but the good thing was my Mum-in-law and husband were there to hold my hand. The Baby eventually came on this special day (my grandmothers birthday) through virginal delivery and was healthy too. Some 3 years after,  this time in the United States of America, my daughter was to be birthed and like her brother, I had chosen a special d...
