Relationship Reflection
Relationships mean
a lot to me because
it’s by relationships that I am who I am today. To have a relationship with someone is to be connected to someone by a family tie or a common interest. some of most important relationships to me are the ones that I didn’t get to choose -My Family but some key ones I somehow get to choose-My spouse. I have a rich Childhood memory which has influenced my adult life positively solely because of the quality relationship I had with my family. I spent a great deal of time with my grandparents and not as much with my parents, I have come to realize that the people you have the closest of relationship with are people you spend a great deal of time with. What you value, you create time for. One of the strengthening factors of a good relationship is the quality of time invested in the relationship.
Love is also a critical
factor in any relationship. Love for the other person makes you commit to the
person, it helps you to overlook differences and weaknesses. Love makes you
willing to give. forgive each other, and appreciate one another. Love makes you
know that there is always somewhere warm to go back to no matter how far you
might have travelled.
Over the years, I have
also come to realize that Family isn’t just people related to you by blood but
people who are always there for you, people who love and cherish you, people
who contribute daily to your lives, they have become part of your support system.
we call them friends, I call them Friends turned family. Some of these people
are in my church, my neighborhood, and they are my colleagues. These people
will lose an arm for me and I would same for them. Over time, these people have
shown love and commitment to my success and growth in life. They have been
there for me raising my children, building a business and various ups and downs
of life. I remember these people called Family were the sole reason why I started
my child care business, they were my pillar of support and encouragement. I would
have closed down the business several times if not for the support of my
wonderful husband and other family members. When I think of their investment in
time and encouragement, I just forge ahead.
4 things stand
true in building relationships
1. You don’t commit the same amount of resources
to all relationships. Some deserve more
2. You can’t please everyone. Understand that
you are a valuable component of the relationship
3. Everyone has their own highs and lows ...
learn to forgive
4. Relationships are life’s support system…be
deliberate in building strong and healthy relationships.

I love the fact that you have such close relationships with your family. This is something I really wish I had with more of my family but everyone is so distant. I believe this is the reason why I have built such close relationships with people who are not family. Your 4 things that stand true in building relationships really made me think about some of the relationships that I have and some of them that have ended. Number 2 really stands out to me because I am always the one who is trying make everyone else happy, but never get the same in return. I think these are some key things that people need to think about when building relationships.
ReplyDeleteYour close relationship with your family made me even more excited for my upcoming travels. Living away for a good portion of my life has made me appreciate my family more, but it also makes me miss them on a regular basis such as holidays, Sunday lunch and birthday. My daughter and I moved away a few years ago, but I make sure we travel home a minimum of twice a year. My partner's family is very close which I adore, but at the same time, I do wish my family had this (my fault of course for relocating). The support system a family provides is undeniable, and with it, we can do a lot.
ReplyDeleteAnuoluwapo,
ReplyDeleteThose are great pictures of your close ones. I agree that some relationships you are able to choose, and some you are not, although both include very important people in our lives. I also agree with the four points you made about building relationships. You are lucky to have such a good support system. That is great that they helped you in your time of need with your daycare. My family is also very supportive and I am grateful for everything they have taught me. Relationships/partnerships are very important in life. Thank you for your blog post.
